Hello all,

Four things to mention as we head into the Winter Solstice: The Solstice Center's Mini-Grant award ceremony on the 21st; A SOLSTICE CHRISTMUKAH on the 16th; an update on the remaining 2006 dates for Miwa Linehan's CHANNELED AND TRANCE MEDIUM HEALING CLINIC, and a birthday party/going away ceremony for Obe Brown on December 20 - details below.

On the Winter Solstice, Boulder's Solstice Institute will present $2000 Mini-Grants in 12 sectors selected from 65 local nonprofit applications.

Please join us at the public reception 7pm, December 21 at the Solstice Center, 302 Pearl Street in Boulder. This is the first year of the program, promoting the "Culture of Sustainability" model.

From the Press Release:
On the Winter Solstice, Boulder's Solstice Institute will present $2000 Mini-Grants in all 12 sectors of the "Culture of Sustainability" model. This is the first year for the program, and the first time this model has been used in a public process.

At a special public reception on December 21, 12 $2000 minigrants will be awarded to the best applicants for the "Culture of Sustainability" minigrants program.

This year, the first time anything like this has ever happened, anywhere in the world, a panel of judges used a sophisticated rating system to evaluate 65 applications from 50 Boulder County organizations. The twelve sectors originate from co-founder Varadaan's deep study of spiritual metaphysics and represent a holistic map for an evolving society that stewards the world and all of its inhabitants. The twelve sector Seed Logos merges with Spiral Dynamics and the Integral model of Ken Wilber, and becomes an extremely powerful approach to building sustainability society from where we are right now.

In addition to the broad approach of the program itself, one theme of the grants program this year, is supporting innovative education projects in local schools. In addition, CU Engineering students will teach an African village how to build water pumps out of locally available materials and then teach other villages. Boulder Car Share will upgrade their vehicle registration system. Natural Capitalism Solutions will create a Climate Protection Manual for Mayoral offices of cities. Naropa University will explore the transformation of thought and behavior during personal inquiry into the nature of Sustainable Culture. Representing all sectors is how to ensure there is a meaningful, holistic approach to encouraging the evolution of society.

Before the awards ceremony, scheduled for 7pm at the Solstice Center at 302 Pearl Street in Boulder, there will be a networking event for all applicants. One facet of the project includes collecting information about Who is Who of Sustainable Culture in our area.

"Culture of Sustainability" can be understood as the cultural template that may be required if we are to truly experience sustainability, the long term survival of human society on Planet Earth. A pragmatic approach to this daunting topic is to examine sectors of the whole pie, each a logically organized subsection of the whole ball of wax, but together revealing a glimpse of that whole ball of wax, a global Sustainable Culture which can be examined at different levels of scale, cultural development and topic area.

The program is administered through the Solstice Institute, a Boulder 501c3 nonprofit organization, which sponsors or has sponsored other Boulder projects like Dance Home, The Commons, Circle of Hearts Network , 302 Pearl Street Studios and the Boulder Housing Coalition.
